Short about crystalline glazes

The surface of clay work is covered with glaze that is a mixture of various oxides. Under the influence of temperatures generated in a ceramic kiln, glaze gains permanent colors. One of the glaze type is a crystalline glaze, which, thanks to the proper combination of raw materials and firing cycle, can produce crystals that look like shimmering flowers. You can never know where the crystals appear, it is a random process that representing the uniqueness of objects made by this method. All glazes I create by myself from raw material like frit, zinc, silica ant many others. Crystals can grow in many different shapes, colors, structure, this can compared to form of ice structures saw on cold days. However, in ceramics world, the temperature needed to grow crystals is very very high … More about crystalline glazes You can find HERE

Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain produced by factories in and around city of Limoges, France beginning in the late 18th century, but does not refer to a particular manufacturer. By about 1830 Limoges, which was close to the areas where suitable clay was found, had replaced Paris as the main centre for private porcelain factories, although the state-owned Sèvres porcelain near Paris remained dominant at the very top of the market. Limoges has maintained this place to the present day.

I am buying porcelain directly in France in the form of a loose powder which is then mixed with water to make casting slip. The process of mixing takes from one to several days. After  mixing, I bled the liquid mass so that no bubbles or defects appear inside the casting structure. It is a process that requires patience and focus.

This product I made using highest quality porcelain Limoges made in France.

equire special treatment.

Some glazes do not like contact with acid and alkaline factors, which means that over time they may slightly change the color if they are in contact with e.g. citric acid in a long period of time or are cleaned in a dishwasher where we use very powerful cleaning agents.

This is due to the nature of the glaze I create. Obtaining a specific decorative effect is impossible without the use of enamel, which will be susceptible to the above-mentioned factors.

A series of good tips for using ceramics:

  • always wash dishes by hand using standard cleaning agents
  • do not soak ceramics in liquids that may be very acidic or very alkaline
  • do not wash in the dishwasher with very strong cleaners
